This photograph “entangled f/olded script” is a composite of an image and a f/olding script from my shared research praxis with Dr Glenna Batsontitled the f/old as somatic\artistic practice. Stimulated by Deleuze’s concept of the fold, paraphrasing: the smallest unit of matter is not the point, but the fold, we explore the fold’s ability of infinite depth and patterning, tipping at thresholds. Through a somatized lens, the praxis is tethered to the body, able to challenge any/all default artmaking.
The image is 2 dancers, Clémentine Télesfort and Belinda Papavasiliou, a spontaneous folded embrace, within an exploratory improvisational ‘dive’ in 2013. Embedded within a script that evolved in 2020 during a workshop series of the praxis. The scripts are improvised by us, the facilitators, in the moment, nurturing the participants in their interactive responses.
Words and image shapeshift, creating new meshworks of relationships. The f/olding embrace aligns as well to our first ‘fold’ that of head to heart as an embryo. Thus, this image was used within Chapter 2 bio-origami history, herstory, our story of a book I co-authored/edited with Dr Glenna Batson released by Intellect in 2025 titled “artmaking as embodied enquiry – entering the f/old”. *
