I was struck by the information in the call out for THE FOLD, in that much of what was spoken of related to both my process and the embodiment of Liminus.
I began the work by using clay as a conduit to enter a theta state. It is from here that I can both feel more embodied and access unconscious memory. When I started, I had neither intention or notion of the outcome. This allows buried emotion to be felt and made manifest. All my work is an unfolding of personal identity, accessed through the liminal state of theta.
The folds, creases and crevices of Liminus describe the deep complexity of my internal world and experience, both lived and imagined, dreamed and inhabited. The membrane of the sculptures surface is ruptured in places, like tears they evoke boundary breeches, whilst the smooth patina circumnavigates the places where my hands have been and found refuge.
There is transformation throughout the process; from feeling into form, from clay into bronze and from buried memory into consciousness.
