These intaglio prints explore the fluid boundary between accidental matter and intentional image. Often rejecting traditional drypoint on copper, I have torn, pushed, and folded discarded sandwich foil until ambiguous imagery emerges – hinting at landscapes, figures, and nature. Inking the laminated foil and running it through the press captures the history and texture of the crumpled material.
This process began accidentally after lunch, while struggling with a drypoint. I humorously placed my sandwich foil over the copper plate, creating a textured topographical surface that relates to Gilles Deleuze’s concept of The Fold, where continuous pleats of matter blur the lines between inside and outside.
Rooted in mixed media sculpture and collage, my fifteen year print practice treats the plate as a tactile, experimental site. This initial exploration led to more than eighty prints which became three volumes of handmade books, bridging past sculptural work with present imagery.
