In her talk, Size Matters, Carol Wyss explores the relationship between scale, materiality and artistic experience. Drawing on examples from the artist’s practice – from the miniature sculpture Sound of Silence to the immense immersive installation The Mind Has Mountains – the talk examines how size shapes the emotional and perceptual force of a work, whether through concentrated, intimate forms or in the immersive experience of entering a large-scale environment.

With a particular focus on printmaking, Wyss discusses how scale shapes the handling of materials, technical processes and the conceptual challenges that different scales of works present.

Wyss grew up in Liechtenstein and now lives and works in London. She holds an MFA from the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL, and is a member of the London Group. Her work has received awards including the John Ruskin Prize and is held in collections such as the V&A Archives and Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein.

Using printmaking, drawing, photography and sculpture Wyss creates installations that are based on anatomical structures to investigate how we inhabit space, carry memory, and understand our lived experience.
